Before setting out on foot, consider starting with an overview of the city. The Sears Tower Skydeck and John Hancock Observatory offer sweeping vistas from 1000 feet above ground level. Next, consider a visit to historic Navy pier. Beautifully perched on Lake Michigan, Navy Pier features the 50,000-square-foot Chicago Children’s Museum and a 440-seat Navy Pier IMAX Theater, and is home to 40,000 square feet of exciting restaurants and retail shops, live music, and more. Just beyond, discover the Crystal Gardens, a 32,000-square-foot indoor botanical park. A variety of boat tours depart from Navy Pier and other city locations, as well as city bus tours, which point out significant landmarks and provide interesting information about Chicago and its history.
The Museum Campus, near Soldier Field, is home to the Field Museum of Natural History and the Adler Planetarium, two excellent museums. Also located at Museum Campus is the Shedd Aquarium, which is the world's largest indoor aquarium with more than 8,000 aquatic animals representing more than 700 species from all parts of the world. For an unforgettable shopping and entertainment experience, be sure to visit Chicago’s Magnificent Mile. With four shopping centers, world-renowned boutiques, locally acclaimed designers, and lovely street-side garden’s throughout, Chicago's Magnificent Mile area simply cannot be missed.
